Arch Handly McDonald, 84, of Williamsport, Md., passed away June 4, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.
Arch was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and moved toWashington, D.C., at the age of 6. He was the son of the late sportscaster Arch L. McDonald and his wife, Cynthia Handly McDonald.
Arch served in the U.S. Coast Guardfrom 1948 to 1952, as an electronics technician in Hobe Sound, Fla. He returned to Washington, D.C., and began his career in television and radio sales, having worked at WTOP, WRC/NBC, and then as general manager of WHAG TV in Hagerstown.
Arch is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth Baker McDonald of Williamsport; and his sister, Patricia Shepherd of Clarksville, Md. Also surviving are son, Arch L. McDonald and wife, Pam, of Williamsport; daughter, Kathryn L. Farrell and husband, Robert, of Silver Spring, Md.; son, Joseph K. McDonald and wife, Ella, of Del City, Okla.; and daughter, Lisa C. Wasman and husband, Thomas, of Apopka, Fla. Arch is also survived by his grandchildren, Cynthia Hanks, Holly Cole, Sarah Mickanis, Sgt. Joseph McDonald (U.S. Marine Corps), Joanna and Jennifer Farrell, and Scott, Matthew and Brett Wasman; in addition to eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
