Liesl Anne Wells, 40, of Kalamazoo, Mich., died Monday, May 28, 2012, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, surrounded by her family after a short illness.

Liesl was born May 3, 1972, in Frederick, Md., and was adopted by Donna Rae and Bill Wells of Hagerstown, Md., where she lived until she and her mother moved to Marshall, Mich., in 1982.

Liesl attended Marshall Schools though middle school and then transferred to Harper Creek, where she graduated in 1990. She then graduated from Wright Beauty Academy and worked as a beautician for several years. She later returned to school, became a certified nurse's aide and worked for Lifespan for many years until she retired in 2006 due to illness.

Liesl cared for her family, and also enjoyed breeding her long-haired dachshunds and showing them in dog shows. As her health kept declining, she would still enjoy taking her children to Eagle Lake for all-day swimming and picnics, and also enjoyed taking them to the "old-fashioned drive-in movies" in Coldwater, Mich.

She is survived by her children, Francesca "Chessie" Wells, Elisha Rootes, Gabriel Rootes and Aiden Case. She is also survived by her grandson, Anthony Kirk; mother, Donna Wells; half-sister, Elizabeth Wells; and special friends, Shannon Edwards and Tony Kirk.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Wells.

Family will receive friends Monday, June 4, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 U.S. 27 North, Marshall, MI. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Walter Nichols Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are requested to the family with checks payable to Donna Wells. Assistance with memorials is available at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Leave a personal message for the family and sign the online guest book at www.kempffuneralhome.com.
