Lloyd Leon "Jim" Shoemaker Jr., 67, of Waynesboro, Pa., passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012, at his home.

Born April 25, 1945, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of Hilda (Poffenburger) Linn and stepfather Carl of Hagerstown, and the late Lloyd L. Shoemaker Sr.

Jim retired as an automotive mechanic for Verizon of Hagerstown, with more than 30 years of service.

He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Hagerstown; the River Bend Horseshoe Club and AMVETS, both of Falling Waters, W.Va.

In addition to his mother and stepfather, he is survived by four children, Candace Howlett of Hagerstown, Lloyd L. Shoemaker III of Pearl City, Hawaii, Patti Hawbaker of Waynesboro and Ricky Shoemaker of Hagerstown; two sisters, Patti Lilly of Florida and Linda Davis of Hagerstown; two brothers, Richard and Tommy Shoemaker, both of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, Randy, Jerrica, and Chance Hawbaker, Justin and Ashley Shoemaker, and Danielle Howlett; two great-grandchildren, Garrett Hawbaker and AdaLynn Harnish; four half-sisters, Medora, Sarah, Rose and Tina; five half-brothers, Sam, Joe, Alvin, Daniel and Thornie; and his ex-wife and caregiver, Charleda Shoemaker of Hagerstown.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kimberly Shoemaker; and two half-sisters, Edna and Clara.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, June 3, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name to the University of Maryland, Greenebaum Cancer Center, 22 S. Greene St., Baltimore, MD 21201.
