One person was taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Sharpsburg Pike (Md. 65) and Poffenberger Road on Friday morning, Trooper James Bowers of the Maryland State Police said.

A Dodge Nitro turning left from Sharpsburg Pike southbound onto Poffenberger Road collided with a Mitsubishi Lancer heading northbound on Sharpsburg Pike, Bowers said.

Traffic is moving smoothly at the intersection.

The driver of the Lancer was taken to Meritus Medical Center. Both vehicles are off the road at the northeast corner of the intersection, each having damage to the front. They will both have to be towed away, Bowers said.

In addition to the Maryland State Police, a firetruck from the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. was on the scene.

Police responded to the accident around 7 a.m.
