Greencastle falls in district final

  • Clear Spring senior striker Ralph Weaver signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Shepherd University, an NCAA Division II school in the West Virginia Conference. Weaver capped his four-year varsity career by scoring 14 goals and adding 10 assists for the Blazers last fall, earning Herald-Mail All-County First Team honors. PREP SOFTBALL

ANNVILLE, Pa. — Greencastle-Antrim lost 3-2 to Manheim Central (21-3) in the PIAA District 3-AAA championship game Thursday night at Lebanon Valley College.

The Blue Devils (18-6) enter the PIAA state tournament on Monday as the No. 2 seed from District 3. They will play the top seed from District 1 — Sun Valley — at a site and time to be announced.

Mary Ward, Rachel Kline and Cassey Cordell each had two hits, and Amanda Wink struck out 10 without a walk for the Blue Devils.

BRIEF

Suns to hold Nathan Minnich Night

The Hagerstown Suns will host Nathan Minnich Night for the Shepherd University standout and Waynesboro High School graduate on Wednesday.

Minnich, a senior for the Rams, has earned several NCAA Division II Player of the Year awards this season. He will be honored in a pregame ceremony by the Suns and will be made available for autographs.
