Frank A. Huntsman, 87, of Hagerstown died Monday, May 28, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Feb. 21, 1925, in Hutchinson, Kan., he was the son of the late Wayne L. and Opal McMullen Huntsman.

Frank was in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and served as a ball turret gunner on the Liberator B-24 bomber with the Long Ranger gunner squadron. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for bagging two enemy fighters over Borneo.

He was a member of the Office of Strategic Services, which was the predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency, retiring after 30 years of service in Burma, Russia, Cuba and Langley, Va.

He was very patriotic and proud of his military service.

He was a member of Harmony Church of the Brethren, AMVETS Post 2 of Frederick, Md., Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3285 of Frederick and Kansas Masonic Foundation, and was a life member of the American Legion.

Frank loved nature, photography and technology.

Frank is survived by his wife, Alice Brandenburg Smith Huntsman; stepchildren; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Huntsman and Claire Grogan; and one niece.

Frank was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Huntsman and Richard Huntsman.

A memorial service will be Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Harmony Church of the Brethren, Harmony, Md., with Pastor Tracy Wiser officiating.
