Alexander to speak at Sharpsburg Library

Ted Alexander, chief historian at the Antietam National Battlefield, will talk about his book, “The Battle of Antietam: the Bloodiest Day” Thursday, June 7, at Sharpsburg Public Library. Sample Manor Church to hold special services

The Sample Manor Church of God near Dargan will hold three outdoor “Under Tent” services this weekend. The Rev. Jeff Dinsmore will sing and preach at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Singing with dinner on the grounds will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Featured singers will be Richard and Mary Fox, the Amos Shifflet Family, Kenny Johnson and Dennis McKinney, and the Samples Manor Church Singers. Free food and drinks will be provided. Bring a lawn chair.

Dennis Figgins and Kenny Johnson will sing and preach at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Poultry swap planned for Saturday, June 16

The Maryland Poultry Swap & Farmers Market will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at Green Hill Farm, 5329 Mondell Road, near Sharpsburg. The swap is held so neighbors can buy/sell/trade their services and products. Admission is free. Spaces cost $10. Volunteers needed to help with trail cleanup

South Mountain Recreation Area Rangers and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club invite citizens to join them Saturday as they clean and enhance Maryland’s section of the Appalachian Trail, in celebration of National Trails Day. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at Washington Monument State Park near Boonsboro.

The work areas include Washington Monument, Wolfsville Road and Turners Gap. The event lasts until 3 p.m., but participants do not have to stay the entire time. Youths must be accompanied by an adult.
