Cause of Mercersburg fire remains 'undetermined'

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — A fire that damaged a downtown Mercersburg building May 13 will have “undetermined” listed as its cause, according to a Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal.

The building at 211 N. Main St. stored artifacts and remains from Mercersburg’s Smith House.

“There’s nothing suspicious, but we can’t pinpoint where the electrical malfunction was,” Trooper Jeff Sarver said.

The single-story, commercial building has block construction. The artifacts sustained little damage.
