School's out for summer

Well, almost. Washington County Public Schools will mark the last day of the 2011-12 school year Friday.

On Friday, schools will close 2 1/2 hours early. Wishing all students, teachers, faculty and staff a very relaxing, happy and healthy summer vacation.

Football registration

The Washington County Junior Football League will hold registration for the fall season Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Food Court area at Valley Mall.

Games are played from September through November at Martin L. “Marty” Snook Memorial Park in Halfway.

The league has 11 junior league teams, 7 pee wee teams and 12 cheer squads for those in grades three to eight.

For registration, the following is required: new players — pee wee or junior — must have an original birth certificate (no copies), copies of two proof of residency, most recent report card (make copies and bring them to speed up the registration process).

The registration fees cost: football, $75 ($60 plus $15 fundraiser); football sibling, $40 ($25 plus $15 fundraiser); cheerleaders, $55 ($40 plus $15 fundraiser); cheerleader sibling, $40 ($25 plus $15 fundraiser).

Football and cheerleader sibling discounts are available. All registration fees are nonrefundable. Siblings must live in the same household for a discount. Cash or money orders only will be accepted (no checks).

Concert series to begin in park

The Hagerstown City Park Summer Concert Series is set to begin Sunday, June 10.

The Hagerstown Municipal Band will perform at the Peter Buys Bandshell at City Park beginning at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
