Thomas Hunt Hardinge Jr., 87, of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at his home in Hagerstown.

Born Dec. 11, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Thomas Hunt Hardinge Sr. and Hannah (Gunnell) Hardinge Stott. He was the husband of the late Pamela Statton Hardinge, who died Nov. 6, 2002, and the late Shirley Ann (Conner) Soltis Hardinge, who died May 18, 2010.

Mr. Hardinge was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy and attended the University of Virginia. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Patton's Third Army Signal Corps.

Mr. Hardinge was the vice president of Statton Furniture Manufacturing Co. in Hagerstown from 1955 until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of Fountain Head Country Club for 66 years, Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, Fla., for 24 years, American Senior Golf Association and Southern Senior Golf Association; past president of the Maryland State Golf Association; past president of the Assembly Club of Hagerstown; Three Score and Ten Club; Morris Frock American Legion Post 42; and a life member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.

Mr. Hardinge is survived by two sons, T. Hunt Hardinge III of Hagerstown and Peter W. Hardinge of Darnestown, Md.; one daughter, Elizabeth S. Hardinge of Hagerstown; one sister, Hannah H. Moylan of Williamsport, Md.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wives, Mr. Hardinge was preceded in death by one sister, Sally Ann Stoner.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Colin Poston will be celebrant. Burial will be Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

At Mr. Hardinge's request, there will be no visitation.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
