Neighborhood group to talk about block party

Neighborhoods 1st Locust Point will host its fourth annual block party in June.

A planning meeting will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Congregation B’Nai Abraham on East Baltimore Street.

All are welcome to attend to share ideas to make the block party a successful community event.

Hagerstown Lions Club news

There will be no regular meeting at the Legion on Tuesday. Instead, the Hagerstown Lions Club members and families will visit Discovery Station, 101 W. Washington St. 

If anyone wishes to attend and hasn’t made plans to do so, contact Lion Paul Leatherman as soon as possible.

The group will meet at Discovery Station at 6 p.m.

On May 19, the club inducted a new member who was sponsored by Tom Perry.


The club welcomed Edward O. Distad, who is a retired school teacher. His wife, Bonita, is a member of the Hagerstown Lioness Club.

Sight and Hearing Chairman Pol Heiney reported the recent collection of 143 eyeglasses, 70 eyeglasses with cases, 13 cases and one hearing aid.

Lioness Club to meet June 7

The regular meeting of the Hagerstown Lioness Club will be Thursday, June 7, at the Academy Theatre Banquet & Conference Center in downtown Hagerstown.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Installation of the 2012-13 officers and board of directors will be conducted by past District Gov. David Fisher.

Vacation Bible school to start June 24

Operation Overboard vacation Bible school will be held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave., from 6 to 8:30 p.m. from June 24 to 28.

There will be classes for those ages 4 to adult. Activities include Bible stories, games, crafts and music.

Register by Friday, June 15.

Bonanza planned

Hagerstown Elks Lodge 378, at 11063 Robinwood Drive, will have a money bonanza  Sunday, June 10.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and dinner will be served at 1 p.m. Tickets cost $25 which admits two guests. 

There will be 31 cash prizes  with a $3,000 grand prize.  All proceeds will benefit  youth programs, veterans and scholarships. Please use door No. 6. This event is for members and guests.
