Cornwell's essay recognized on national level of DAR contest

Benjamin Wayne Cornwell, son of Teresa and Howard Cornwell, a senior at Clear Spring High School, was named a winner in the Daughters of the American Revolution  Good Citizen Scholarship Essay Contest.

Sponsored by the local Conococheague DAR Chapter, Benjamin initially was honored at the Good Citizens Scholarship Tea and Awards Ceremony at Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in March.

Ben went on to win first place in the 2012 DAR Good Citizen contest at the state level, as announced at the Maryland State Society DAR Conference in Hunt Valley, Md.

Most recently, Ben was named the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Eastern Division winner for the DAR Good Citizen Scholarship Essay Contest. 

Benjamin will attend the University of Maryland Honors College in the Integrated Life Sciences Program at College Park.

He plans to major in biology and to fulfill a life-long goal of helping others by becoming a pediatrician.


He exemplifies the qualities of a DAR Good Citizen including dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
