CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Washington pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to stun Musselman 3-2 in the West Virginia Class AAA Region II semifinals on Friday.

The Patriots will travel to Bridgeport today for the region final.

Colin Gustines had two hits for Washington. Ryan Pansch went the distance, striking out 11.

Jacob Whitmore had two hits for Musselman (25-10). Chance Allen drove in both runs. Evan Woolum struck out eight in 6 2/3 innings.


Ryan wins state gold

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Chambersburg junior Marshay Ryan won the Class AAA girls long jump Friday at the PIAA state championships.

Ryan won with a leap of 19 feet, 5 1/4 inches as she broke the Tri-State area record in the event for the third time in her career. He previous best was 18-9 1/2.


Rams’ Minnich is Ron Lenz Division II Player of Year

Shepherd University senior first baseman Nathan Minnich headlines the 2012 Daktronics, Inc., NCAA Division II All-America baseball team as the Ron Lenz Player of the Year.

Minnich finished the season batting .487 (74-for-152) with 21 home runs, 12 doubles and 72 RBIs, while racking up a .980 slugging percentage. As of Thursday, he led the country in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, walks per game and RBIs. He also ranks second in batting average and home runs, while ranking third in runs scored per game.
