Memorial Rec Center plans summer youth camp

Memorial Recreation Center, 109 W. North Ave.,  will hold its Wheaton Park Summer Youth Camp, starting on Monday, June 11.

The camp is for those ages 5 to 11 and all are welcome.

New canine sport topic of June 3 workshop

On Sunday, June 3, the Peaceable Paws dog training facility, at 17816 Spielman Road, will conduct a one-day workshop titled “Introduction to Treibball” for dogs and their owners interested in learning about the new canine sport.

Vacation Bible school

Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave., will host vacation Bible school  June 24 to 28 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. with the theme “Operation Overboard: Dare to go Deep with God.”

Classes are geared for those ages 4 and older.

A light meal will be served from 5 to 5:45 p.m.

Western Heights principal says thanks you to PTSA

As the school year concludes, Michael Kuhaneck, principal at Western Heights Middle School, would like to thank the PTSA, specifically Roni Merrill. The PTSA has been supportive, and the RESA ceremony would not exist without its support.

Merrill has finished numerous bulletin boards, supported teachers in numerous capacities, and has been at WHMS endless hours supporting the book fair. She is proof that one person does make the difference.

Tobacco-free classes to be offered in county

Classes for the Tobacco Free for Life Program are scheduled for four Mondays from June 4 to June 23, with two classes to choose from — a  morning session from 11 a.m. to noon at Washington County Health Department, 1302 Pennsylvania Ave., and evening classes from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave.

Free cessation aids are available while supplies last.

Church yard sale

St. James Church, 17718 Lappans Road, will hold a yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lunch will be available for purchase from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Summer worship

Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, will begin its summer worship schedule, starting Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2.

Each Saturday at 5 p.m., there will be a spoken word service. On Sundays at 8:15 a.m., there will be a traditional worship and at 9:30 a.m. there will be worship on the lawn.

Dress is casual. Bring lawn chairs or blankets.
