Ruritan Club recognized for support of Scouting

The Maugansville Ruritan Club was recognized with an award for sponsoring  Scouting for more than 50 years.  Joseph Bach, representing the Mason-Dixon Council of Boy Scouts of America, presented Chuck Cunningham, Ruritan Club president, with the award at a recent meeting. 

The Ruritan Club has supported both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Ruritan Club presents scholarship winners

On May 16, the Maugansville Ruritan Club presented a $1,000 scholarships to four local high school students. 

Tom Ingram introduced and presented each winner with his or her scholarship award.  The winners introduced their parents, and gave a brief description of their future plans and vocational aspirations.

Rajan Patel, son of Raj and Ranjan Patel, said he plans to attend the University of Maryland and major in biogenetics. 

Crystal Welling, daughter of Donald and Elizabeth Welling, said she plans to attend Wilson College and study veterinary and environmental sciences. 

Amanda Martin, daughter of Joseph and Sandra Martin, said she plans to attend Salisbury University and study early childhood and elementary education. 

Anne Hunt, daughter of Phillip and Debra Hunt, said she plans to attend Hagerstown Community College for two years and then transfer to Hood College to study communications and then become a broadcaster. 

The Ruritan Club members wish to extend their best wishes to each of the winners for a successful college career.

For more than 47 years, the Ruritan Club has presented scholarships to local students and invited them and their parents to their dinner meetings.

Church announces summer worship schedule

The Haven Lutheran Church will begin its summer worship schedule on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2. Each Saturday at 5 p.m. there will be a spoken service. 


Each Sunday at 8:15 a.m. there will be a traditional worship. Then at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays there will worship on the lawn. Attendees are encouraged to wear casual clothes and bring lawn chairs or blankets. 

The church is at 1035 Haven Road in Hagerstown.

Circus tickets still available for June 6 shows at airport

The Kelly Miller Circus will be held at Hagerstown Regional Airport on Wednesday, June 6, to benefit the Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Co.

Shows will be at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Advance tickets cost $10 for adults and $6 for those ages 2 to 11.  Tickets at the event will cost $15 for adults and $7 for children. Advance tickets can be purchased at the fire company or from any fire company member.  Tickets are also available at the Sprint Store, Maugansville Creamery and Your Country Store.

Chicken barbecue planned for June 9

The Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a chicken barbecue on Saturday, June 16, from 11 a.m. until sold out. 

A dinner includes a half chicken, baked bean, applesauce and a roll for $6 or you can purchase a half chicken for $4.50. 

Baked goods will be available that day as well.

There will be free delivery for a limited area.
