KEEDYSVILLE — A Keedysville, Md., man was arrested Thursday on charges stemming from a domestic dispute last week in which his girlfriend’s clothing and personal property were burned, fire investigators said.

William Lupton Haines, 52, who turned himself in without incident, is facing charges for second-degree assault, second-degree malicious burning, arson threats and malicious destruction of property, according to a news release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal Office.

Through a joint investigation with the Hagerstown Fire Marshal’s Office, it was determined that Haines allegedly burned his girlfriend’s clothing and dresser drawers in the backyard of their home in the 5100 block of Mt. Briar Road on May 19, the release said.

The damage was estimated at $250, according to a notice of investigation previously issued by the state fire marshal’s office.

Haines was released from the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond, fire marshals said.
