May 24, 2012

HAGERSTOWN — A water main broke at the intersection of Frederick Street and Wilson Boulevard early Thursday morning, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said.

The right northbound lane of Frederick Street was closed at the intersection at 6:40 a.m., according to a motorists, and motorists were forced to go through the intersection using the left-turn lane.

Repairs were expected to be finished Thursday afternoon so the road will be partially closed for most of the day, according to an email from Hagerstown spokeswoman Erin Wolfe.

To make the repairs, water service to a nearby Susquehanna Bank and about a dozen homes in the area of Frederick Street and Willow Circle were expected to be affected, Wolfe said.

Flares have been set up along Frederick Street at the intersection.

Police responded to the water main break at 4:51 a.m. Thursday.
