May 23, 2012

INWOOD, W.Va. — A recreational vehicle caught fire Wednesday night along southbound Interstate 81 near the Tabler Station Road exit, according to emergency rescue officials.

The fire was reported about 6:35 p.m., shutting down both southbound lanes of the interstate until about 8:15 p.m., when one lane was opened, a Berkeley County 911 spokeswoman said.

The recreational vehicle, which was pulling a Jeep, was destroyed in the fire, the spokeswoman said.

A man and woman riding in the vehicle were assisted by Red Cross, officials said.

The man and woman lost most of their belongings in the fire, said Brent Orsini, assistant chief of the South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Co.

Orsini said it appears the fire started in the rear of the vehicle.
