Greencastle woman appointed as Eastern Star grand officer

Winifred E. Harvie of Greencastle, Pa., was appointed a grand officer at the 2012 Maryland Session of the Order of the Eastern Star held May 2 in Ocean City, Md.

Harvie will travel with the grand family of officers throughout Maryland. She also will attend sessions in the District of Columbia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, as well as the Triennial in Texas.

She is looking forward to meeting other members of the order and traveling during the next year.

Harvie is a member of Queen Esther Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 3, which meets at the Masonic Temple at 54 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown. She has been the chapter secretary for several years.

Harvie retired from the Greencastle-Antrim School District after 40 years teaching music. Before that, she taught two years in New Jersey and one year in Virginia.

The Order of the Eastern Star is a social group consisting of those with spiritual values, but it is not a religion. Group members are dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness.
