William H. Hornbaker, 65, of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at his home.

Born May 23, 1946, in Mercersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Blaine H. and Lucy M. Snyder Hornbaker.

Bill was a 1964 graduate of James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg.

He was employed for 20 years by Pinesburg Quarry. For the last 15 years, he worked for the Washington County Board of Education, retiring March 1, 2012.

He enjoyed hunting mushrooms, cutting firewood and eating at restaurants. Bill and his wife spent their summers at Saunderosa Camp Grounds.

He was a member of Emmanuel Chapel in Smithsburg, Md.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Palmer Hornbaker, whom he married Aug. 11, 2006; a sister, Martha Yost of Clear Spring, Md.; and four stepchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth and Robert Hornbaker; a sister, Betty Mellott; and nine nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 25, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with Pastor Jonathan D. Laye officiating. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery near Mercersburg.

Viewing will be Friday one hour before services at the funeral home.
