Vacation Bible school to get under way June 11

A community vacation Bible school will be held at St. John’s UCC from June 11 to 15.  The theme is “SonRise — National Park.”

There will be crafts, Bible study, snacks, games and learning about nature. It is for those ages 3 years old through eighth grade. Bible school runs from 9 to 11:45 a.m. 

There is no cost, and the community is welcome.

Car wash planned in Clear Spring June 9

Clear Spring High School Future Business Leaders of America will host a car wash at Weller’s Service Center next to McDonald’s in Clear Spring on Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting. 

All proceeds will help offset expenses for four students going to San Antonio at the end of June for the national FBLA leadership conference. 

Hoover scholarship fundraiser is Tuesday

Hempen Hill, in Fountainhead Plaza, will hold a Quinn Alec Hoover Legacy Scholarship fundraiser Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

The restaurant will donate 15 percent of the bill to the scholarship fund.

Did you know a bicentennial pageant was held at Fort Frederick on May 15, 1956? 

The pageant was titled “Portal to Peace.” Six-hundred students from Washington County junior and senior high schools participated.

E. Russell Hicks, from Potomac Junior High, and Nora Snyder, who was the principal at Clear Spring Elementary, wrote the script for the pageant. The bicentennial attracted nationwide recognition.
