Grace United Church hosts tea for mothers, daughters

May 21, 2012

Ladies of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown held a Mother and Daughter Tea on April 28.

The tea was a celebration of mothers and daughters, and honoring the importance of female relationships. Ladies conversed while sipping tea from vintage tea cups.

The theme for the tea was spring: a season of the heart, bejeweled Rider Hall with lavender and yellow pansies, sterling silver English Tea service and serving dishes and china teapots. Ladies were adorned in spring hats, some with feathers touting a royal flair. A hat contest and door prizes were part of the event.

Bethany Magner played a musical selection on her flute and Katlyn Lewis recited the poem "Drinking from my Saucer."

A light raspberry crème tea and Lady Hannah fruit blend from an Ohio tea house were sampled by the ladies. Attendees were served in three courses consisting of tea sandwiches, chocolate-dipped strawberries, pimento cheese spread, a crudité cup, freshly baked scones and an array of sweet delectables.

All proceeds from the tea went directly to the church fund.

Tea hostesses were Lewis,  Rayetta Murray, Denise Poffenberger, Daisy Wolfensberger, Kim Carr, Wanda Stouffer, Kathy Brashears and Polly Martin.
