Fire destroys Gerrardstown home

May 20, 2012

GERRARDSTOWN, W.Va. — Fire destroyed a two-story house in the Glenwood Forest subdivision Sunday night, according to a Back Creek Valley Fire Department spokesman.

Fire Chief Dan Petry said a neighbor initially saw a grill on fire at the house. When firefighters arrived, fire was erupting from the roof of the house on Cashew Lane.

The fire was reported about 6 p.m.

Two people were inside the home but did not know the house was on fire. The occupants escaped safely, Petry said.

The Red Cross will assist the family, Petry said.
