May 20, 2012

SHADY GROVE, Pa. — The Manitowoc Co. recently pledged $100,000 to two local organizations in support of the Lilian S. Besore Memorial Library capital campaign and the Chambersburg YMCA’s capital campaign.

To aid in Greencastle’s Lilian S. Besore Memorial Library capital campaign, Manitowoc pledged $50,000, which will help fund renovations to the existing library. Building renovations will include improvements in the children’s program area and the community room, as well as improve handicap access to the building and facilities.

With Manitowoc’s support, the library has nearly $600,000 in pledges and contributions toward its goal of $1.2 million.

Manitowoc also pledged $50,000 to support the Chambersburg YMCA’s capital campaign for the William K. Nitterhouse Family Program Center. With their support, the YMCA has reached 77 percent of its fundraising goal as it works to transform the former Coldbrook Elementary School into the William K. Nitterhouse Family YMCA Program Center.

The center is anticipated to open in June with various programs for progressive early childhood development, arts and humanities classes, and outdoor recreational activities. It will feature four preschool classrooms, two wellness rooms and locker rooms. The outdoor recreation area will feature two age-appropriate playgrounds, a pavilion, an organic garden, multipurpose athletic fields and a fitness trail.
