Hedgesville fire destroys home in Laurel Ridge

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — A fire Saturday afternoon in the Laurel Ridge subdivision destroyed a two-story home and damaged two others, according to Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Nichols.

Three people in the home at 210 Quality Terrace were alerted by smoke detectors and escaped uninjured, Nichols said. The owner of the home and his wife were not home when the fire started, Nichols said.

The fire was reported at 1:17 p.m., according to a Berkeley County dispatcher. Nichols said the cause of the fire, which appeared to start in the garage, was under investigation.

The loss to the home was estimated at $200,000, Nichols said.

Damage to a home at 196 Quality Terrace was estimated at $1,000 while damage to a home at 224 Quality Terrace was estimated between $8,000 and $10,000, Nichols said.
