Wendy Jean Bryan, 62, of Martinsburg, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.
Born Sept. 3,1949, in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of the late Wendell Edward Paine and Norma Jean Cradler Paine.
In early life, she was raised by her grandparents, Clair D. and Freda M. Cook Breckenridge.
She was a homemaker and an avid arts-and-crafter and crocheter.
Previously, she was employed as a teller at Jefferson Security Bank in Shepherdstown and Hollywood Casino in Charles Town, W.Va.
She is survived by her longtime companion, David Valentine of Martinsburg, W.Va.; daughter, Kimberly Byrd and husband, Douglas, of Martinsburg; daughter, Kelly J. Griffin of Shepherdstown; son, Terry Griffin and wife, Erin, of Fayetteville, W.Va.; and stepsons Jemal and Justin Valentine of Boonsboro, Md. She is also survived by the father of her children, Clyde Griffin of Martha's Vineyard, Mass.; her brother, John Paine and wife, Cathy, of Anson, Maine; two nieces; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Nila Langenstein and Linda Gysberts; and an infant brother and sister.
The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, May 21.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, with Chaplain Doug Knupp officiating. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Md.
