SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Jonathan Robert Miller graduated cum laude from Shippensburg University on May 5 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration in accounting.

While at Shippensburg, Jonathan founded the Shippensburg University Fishing Club.  He will be fishing this summer in the FLW College Fishing Series. 

Jonathan is the son of John and Sally Miller of Keedysville.

SEARCY, Ark. — Jaclyn Garrish of Hagerstown was one of approximately 750 graduates to receive a diploma at Harding University’s commencement exercises May 5.

Garrish received a Bachelor of Arts in communication science and disorders.

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Christopher Howard of Smithsburg was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Champlain College for achieving a semester grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Howard is majoring in computer forensics and digital investigations.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. —  Andrew Thomas Orsie of Summit Point, W.Va., graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater performance from Juniata College at commencement May 12:

Orsie is a 2008 graduate of Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.

He is the son of Matthew and Jane Orsie.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Department of Business at Elizabethtown College held its annual awards banquet April 11, celebrating the work of more than 60 students through several scholarships and awards.

The following area students were honored:

  • Isaac Bingaman of Mercersburg, Pa., a first-year business administration major, received the Department of Business Scholarship.
  • Jacob Dovey of Mercersburg, a sophomore accounting major, received the Glenn R. Patterson Scholarship.
  • Katie Gantz of Hagerstown, a senior business administration-marketing major, received the Douglas and Victoria Meacham Memorial Award, James B. Hoover Department Scholarship, Student Conference in Business and Economics Best Paper Award for Outstanding Presentation, and Nominee for Outstanding Student Award.
  • Brooke Wachtel of Martinsburg, W.Va., a junior international business-finance major, received the Musselman Scholarship.


LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — The following area students received degrees from Lock Haven University during spring commencement ceremonies:

  • Laura Ashley McGovern of Waynesboro, Pa., earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology.
  • Ellen Elizabeth Nesbitt of McConnellsburg, Pa., earned a Bachelor of Science in speech communication.
  • Dale Richard Shoop of Shippensburg, Pa., earned a Bachelor of Science in technology education.
  • Amanda Marie VanDixon of Shippensburg graduated magna cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology.
  • Carrie Beth Yeatts, of Mercersburg, Pa., graduated magna cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Arts in social work.


HUNTINGTON, Ind. —  The following area students participated in the 114th commencement exercises at Huntington University on May 12:

  • Jen Cramer of Shippensburg, Pa., earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and psychology.
  • Nathan Hann of Chambersburg, Pa., earned a Bachelor of Science in worship leadership.
