Arnold F. Gozora, 88, of Williamsport, Md., passed away peacefully from this life on May 15, 2012, surrounded by his family, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Jan. 23, 1924 in Hope Lawn, N.J., he was the son of the late Paul Gozora and Catherine (Ference) Gozora of Perth Amboy, N.J.

Arnold graduated from Middlesex vocational school, Perth Amboy, N.J., as an electrician.

He retired from Mack Trucks, Inc. in 1987 after 37 years of service.  He was a member of American Legion Post 202, Knights of Columbus, Golden Bulldogs, and United Auto Workers Local 171. Arnold was an avid golfer, fisherman and Baltimore Orioles fan. He was a devoted family man and was always there to support and "cheer on" all family members in their activities. He was a member of St. Augustine Church, Williamsport.

Arnold served his country during World War II. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, 5th Marine Division. Pvt. Gozora served on a forward observation team as a field wireman in the 13th Marine Artillery Regiment. These Marines were one of the assault units in the battle of Iwo Jima, securing the airstrip Motoyama One. After the battle of Iwo Jima, Pvt. Gozora was commissioned to the occupation of Japan. As part of the occupation force, the 5th Marines enforced surrender terms in Japan. Cpl. Gozora was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1946. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines were a daily part of his life.

Arnold is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Katherine R. (O'Mara) Gozora, at home; two daughters, Arlene R. (Gozora) Shupp and husband, Gary, of Williamsport, and Ruth Ann (Gozora) Snook and husband, Gregory, of Williamsport; two sons, Thomas M. Gozora and wife, Melanie, of Williamsport, and Arnold P Gozora and wife, Sue Ann, of Clear Spring, Md.; his beloved grandchildren, Andrew Shupp, Katie (Snook) Clutz, Sarah Snook, Ben Gozora, Elizabeth Gozora, Rachel (Gozora) Drummond, Alison Gozora, Kristi (Wolfensberger) Meehan, and Randy Wolfensberger; four dearly loved great-grandchildren, Patrick Drummond, Logan Clutz, Beau and Phoebe Meehan. He was the beloved uncle of several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline (Gozora) Bernadyn; brother, Stephen F. Gozora; and daughter-in-law, Alicia (Aukeman) Gozora.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport, on Friday, May 18. Prayers will be offered at 5:45 p.m. Friday. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Friday. A Mass will be held to celebrate the life of Arnold F. Gozora on Saturday, May 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 32 E. Potomac St., Williamsport, with the Rev. John Jicca as celebrant. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park Williamsport. Military honors will be rendered by AMVETS Post 10 and the Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial contribution be made to Hospice of Washington County, Inc., 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
