MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A man charged in the December 2010 robbery of a Martinsburg-area BB&T Bank branch from the drive-through lane has been sentenced to more than 18 years in prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Mark Daniel Haines, 42, who pleaded guilty last year to one count of bank robbery, was sentenced by Judge John Preston Bailey to serve 225 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II’s office announced Tuesday.
One count of attempted bank robbery was dismissed as part of a plea agreement, according to court records.
Ihlenfeld’s office said Haines is from Montgomery County, Md., but court records indicate the defendant had resided in the Harpers Ferry, W.Va., area and Frederick, Md., before he was captured in 2010.
On Dec. 22, 2010, police alleged that Haines received $7,528 after he drove up to the teller window of the bank at 1111 Winchester Ave. in Martinsburg and demanded money, according to court documents.
