Curves celebrates Women's Health Week

This week has been declared National Women’s Week, in partnership with the U.S.  Office of Women’s Health and Curves gym.

In celebration, Curves of Williamsport, 10210 Governor Lane Blvd., will hold an open house this week, with free food all day through Friday.

On Wednesday, area women are invited to a free cookout from 5 to 7 p.m. A representative from the town will be on hand at 5 p.m. to declare May 17 as National Curves Day.

Owner Iffy Imarhiagbe said she will also be giving out 100 free one-month memberships to celebrate the week.

Blue Band fundraiser tonight at Chick-fil-A

The Williamsport Blue Band Boosters would like to invite the community to its fundraiser tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chick-fil-A, 1680 Wesel Blvd., Hagerstown.

Slippery potpie dinner planned

Calvary Temple, 147 S. Conococheague St., will hold a potpie dinner Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.

The menu includes all-you-can-eat ham and chicken slippery potpie, coleslaw, applesauce and dessert.

Tickets cost $6.50 for adults and $3.50 those ages 3 to 12.

Blue Band yard sale items are available

Due to the cancellation of the Blue Band’s Yard Sale Extravaganza, all donated items will be on sale at the Van Lear neighborhood yard sale, 10607 August Court, on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Quarter auction will benefit child care center

Kinder Haven Child Care Center invites the community to its quarter auction Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St. Doors open at noon.

Attendees bid quarters for a chance to win an item. A drawing between the bidders then determines who gets the item.

Admission costs $5 and includes two paddles. Additional paddles cost $1 each.

Raffle tickets are available for a “big basket of goodies” valued at more than $200. Raffle tickets cost $2 each.

Community shred day to be held Sunday

The Williamsport Moose Lodge and Better Shredder will hold a community shred day Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m. in the lower parking lot behind the Moose Lodge.

Anyone may bring a maximum of four boxes or bags of papers to be shred for free.

Reunion planned for WHS Class of 1944

The Williamsport High School Class of 1944 will hold its class reunion Saturday, June 2, at Western Sizzlin’ Steakhouse, 17567 York Road in Hagerstown, beginning at noon.

Town Hall to be closed on Tuesday, May 22

Williamsport Town Hall will be closed Tuesday, May 22, for employee training sessions.

Registration under way for swimming lessons

The Red Cross will hold registration for swim lessons Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Pavilion 1 in Byron Memorial Park.

Morning classes run from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m. and evening classes from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m.

Sessions are scheduled for June 4 to 14 (evening only), June 18 to 28, July 2 to 12, and July 16 to 26.

The registration fee of $55 is due at sign-up by cash, check, or credit card. For later sign-up, call the Williamsport pool after May 26 at 301-223-5983. The pool is managed by the town of Williamsport.
