The graduates

Funkstown resident Elsie Evans has some bragging rights this spring. Two of her grandchildren recently graduated with degrees in education.

Grandson Tom Evans, son of Tim Evans, graduated May 5 from Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in education.

Her granddaughter, Ashley Allen, graduated from Arkansas State University May 12 with a master’s degree in education. Elsie is very proud of her educators.

Election time

Funkstown recently held its town election and positions for assistant mayor, and three council seats were up for grabs.

Sharon Chirgott ran unopposed for assistant mayor and remained in her position.

The three council seats were filled by incumbents John Phillips, Bobby Rodgers and newcomer (and neighbor) Luke Barnette.

This would be the perfect opportunity to thank those who serve on the town council and in government. All of your hard work, time and energy is greatly appreciated.

Barbecue planned

Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. will host a barbecue Saturday, May 26, starting at 9:30 a.m.

The menu includes barbecue chicken, open-pit beef sandwiches, Italian sausage and ham sandwiches.
