Four people airlifted from crash near Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport

May 16, 2012

Four people were airlifted to area hospitals Wednesday evening after a head-on collision between two vehicles near Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport south of Martinsburg, a fire official said.

The severity of their injuries were unknown, according to Lt. Brad Mason of South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Co.

The call for units to respond to the crash, which involved a minivan and a two-door hatchback, went out about 8:03 p.m., for an area near the intersection of Airport Road and Snyders Lane, the dispatcher said.

One person was trapped inside the minivan and was extricated from the vehicle, Mason said.

Airport Road was shut down while crews were on the scene, but the roadway was reopened about 45 minutes later, Mason said.

West Virginia State Police were handling the investigation, but had no further details late Wednesday night, a trooper said.
