Home cooking: Lace oatmeal cookies

May 15, 2012

Harriet Muldowney has been a member of the Singer Society for a decade. The Singer Society is a volunteer organization that supports the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, providing refreshments at exhibit receptions, leading tours and helping around the museum.

Muldowney brought this recipe to a Singer Society event, and the recipe subsequently appeared in the Society's newsletter.

People interested in volunteering with the Singer Society should contact the museum at 301-739-5727.

Lace oatmeal cookies

1/2 cup butter, melted

1 1/2 cup rolled oats, regular or quick-cooking

1 tablespoon flour

1 egg

1 cup sugar

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Pinch of salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix ingredients well. May refrigerate until later use.

To make cookies, heat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheet with foil. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto foil, widely spread, about 12 to a sheet.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Watch for browning edges.

Remove from oven, take foil off cookie sheet and lay on wire rack. Let cool. Peel off foil.

Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
