Preschool at church accepting registration
Parents Day Out at St. Andrews United Methodist Church is accepting registration for those ages 1 to 5 for its fall nursery/preschool classes.
The program operates each Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. from September through May. The children are grouped by age and learn shapes, colors, numbers, letters and other concepts through games, play activities and stories. Each class has two adult staff members who are CPR-certified and child- oriented.
The cost is $20 per day.
The church is at 1020 Maryland Ave. in Hagerstown, across from South End Shopping Center.

Dog training facility offering new classes
New dog training classes are starting at Peaceable Paws this week.
The training facility offers spring and summer sessions.
There is a puppy social every Tuesday evening and basic good manners classes are available.

Yard sale, car wash planned at South High
The South High Rebel Band will hold a food drive, along with a yard sale and car wash Saturday at the high school.
Hagerstown Ford will donate $20 for each test drive in one of its vehicles at the school that day.
Hagerstown Ford is helping to organize the event titled “Drive One 4 UR School.” There will be one test drive per household.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The yard sale will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will cost $15 to rent space; participants supply their own tables.
The car wash will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by donation.

Civil War medical historian to speak
Dr. Gordon E. Dammann, chairman and founder of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, Md., will speak at the Tuesday, May 22, meeting of the Sharpsburg Historical Society at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall in Sharpsburg.
Dammann will present “Evacuation of Wounded from Antietam — The Letterman Plan.”
Dammann is the author of the three-volume “Pictorial Encyclopedia of Civil War Medical Instruments and Equipment,” co-author of “Images of Civil War Medicine — A Photographic History,” and editor of the reprint “Memoirs of Jonathan Letterman, MD Surgeon ofU.S. Army1861-1864.”
Dammann recently retired from his private dental practice in Lena, Ill., and is active in several Civil War and historical societies. He is a licensed guide at Antietam National Battlefield and has participated in Civil War programs throughout the United States, including West Point and the Smithsonian Institution.
The meeting is free and open to the public.
