Marie E. Stewart, 63, of Hancock died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland, Md.
Born March 13, 1949, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Carl E. Sr. and Thelma Geraldine Clingerman Wertman, and wife of Talmadge Oakley "Sarge" Stewart, whom she married April 5, 1970, at Hancock Church of the Nazarene.
She was a member of Hancock Church of the Nazarene, a 1967 graduate of Hancock High School and a member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed needlepoint, quilting and spending time with her family.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Charmaine K. "Katie" Harden and husband, Dale, of Hancock; two sons, Brian L. Stewart, and Michael P. "Mike" Stewart and wife, Stephanie, all of Hancock; three sisters, Esther Sharon Mullenix of Williamsport, Md., Deborah Baum of Staten Island, N.Y., and Pamela G. Wertman of Hagerstown; three brothers, Carl E. Wertman Jr. of McConnellsburg, Pa., William Howard Wertman of California City, Calif., and Timothy Mark Wertman of Harrisonville, Pa.; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Jimmy Jeffries will officiate; burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Artemas, Pa. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, May 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, MD 21750, to help defray expenses.
