Smithsburg teenager to represent Md. in Florida

Leah Ellis, 13, has been selected to represent Chesapeake State at the 2012 Miss American Junior Teen Pageant. 

Leah, the daughter of Charles and Sheryl Ellis of Hagerstown, is an eighth-grade student at Smithsburg Middle School. In addition to the being crowned, the Miss Chesapeake Junior Teen, she also received awards for her volunteer service, academic achievement and best interview.

As the Chesapeake State Junior Teen, Leah will attend the national pageant for her age group in Florida and Disney World during the week of Thanksgiving. She will compete for the National Pageant title of Miss American Junior Teen and thousands of dollars in cash awards, prizes and scholarships.

Annually, American Coed Pageants Inc. holds state pageants for the purpose of recognizing and rewarding outstanding young women between the ages of 3 and 22 for their past and present accomplishments and to encourage them to set and achieve high goals for the future.

In states where pageants are not held, selection of state representatives is made through written applications and photos.
