Release of fact-finding report in Pa. teacher contract dispute delayed

May 10, 2012

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — A fact-finding report issued in a contract dispute between the Waynesboro Area School Board and its teachers union was not made public Thursday as expected.

A spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry said the state’s labor relations board was awaiting notices from both sides before releasing the report. The teachers and school board were supposed to officially notify the state of how they voted on the report this week.

The fact-finding report could have served as the basis for a new contract.

The teachers accepted the report’s recommendations, but the school board rejected them. The school board is expected to vote a second time on Tuesday.

The teachers union, Waynesboro Area Education Association, authorized a strike Wednesday, but did not release possible dates for a strike.

The last teachers’ contract expired June 30, 2010.
