Scholarship funds created in memory of two Washington County students

A Legacy Scholarship Fund has been created in the name of Quinn Alec Hoover and A Leopard Spirit Memorial Scholarship Fund has been created in the name of Mitchell Akers

The Community Foundation of Washington County MD Inc. has announced new scholarships in memory of two county high school students who died recently.

A Legacy Scholarship Fund has been created in the name of Quinn Alec Hoover, who died on March 18.

A Leopard Spirit Memorial Scholarship Fund has been created in the name of Mitchell Akers, who died on April 11.

The Quinn Hoover fund will provide scholarships to deserving students from both Washington County Technical and Clear Spring high schools, the community foundation said in a news release.

The fund was created by family and friends of Quinn to continue his legacy of touching lives, and in response to the great outpouring of community support received upon his death, the release said.

Anyone wishing to contribute to this fund can send a check, payable to Quinn Alec Hoover Legacy Scholarship Fund, to the CFWC, 33 W. Franklin St., Suite 203, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

The Mitchell Akers fund has been created by his family and friends to honor his zest for life and his irrepressible spirit for all things Smithsburg, the community foundation said in a separate news release.

The Mitchell Akers scholarship fund will provide scholarships to graduating seniors at Smithsburg High School who emulate Mitchell’s spirit, the release said.

Contributions may be made in memory of Mitchell at any time to the CFWC, 33 W. Franklin St., Suite 203, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
