One person was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after an accident on westbound Interstate 70 just past Exit 35 to Mapleville Road (Md. 66), Trooper James Bowers of the Maryland State Police said.

Ashley Gossard, 30, the driver of a Toyota Corolla heading westbound on Interstate 70, skidded off the left side of the interstate and hit an embankment, Bowers said.

The driver, the only person in the Corolla, was being taken to Meritus Medical Center for minor injuries, Bowers said.

The left lane of westbound I-70 was closed in the area of the accident for about 45 minutes until the Toyota was towed away.

In addition to the Maryland State Police, an ambulance from Hagerstown Community Rescue Service, a firetruck from the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Company, and a firetruck from the Mount Aetna Volunteer Fire Department are all on the scene.

Police responded to the accident at 7:45 a.m.
