School daze

May 08, 2012|Susie Hoffman | Around Funkstown

As we embrace May and all the beauty it brings, we have a number of things to put on our calendars before the school year ends.

Do you realize that Washington County students have fewer than 30 days left before summer break?

Rebel Band fundraiser

Hagerstown Ford is teaming up with South Hagerstown High School’s Band Boosters to help to raise money for the school’s Rebel Band.

On Saturday, May 19, attendees can test drive one of the vehicles on display.

For every test drive, Hagerstown Ford will donate $20 to the boosters club. Only one test drive per household, please.

Test drives will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Also set up in the school’s parking lot will be a yard sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spaces are available for rent for $15 each; participants provide their own tables.

Also, stop by from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the car wash. Donations will be accepted.

For more information, call Laura Horning at 240-217-5675.

Alumni meeting

The South Hagerstown High School Alumni Association will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. in the school’s media center.

On the agenda for discussion is the informal alumni gathering on June 15, the annual benefit golf tournament at Beaver Creek Country Club on Thursday, June 14, and the scholarship winners for this year.

Don’t forget Mother’s Day

This Sunday is Mother’s day. That much is obvious. If you read a magazine, watch TV or log on to social media, you are bombarded with advertisements and ideas on how to spend money to acknowledge your mother’s contribution to who you are.

Might I make a suggestion? Pick up the phone, drive over to see her or write her a letter.

Do something personal, something from the heart.

She is the only one who has been there from the very first heartbeat.

Thank her, appreciate her, marvel at her, be humbled by her.

Tell her you love her.

Happy Mother’s Day to every woman, who through birth or marriage or fostering or adoption, bravely calls herself mother.
