HAGERSTOWN — Two people were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle accident Monday morning at the intersection of South Potomac Street and West Wilson Boulevard, Officer Patty Shantz of the Hagerstown Police Department said.

The accident is still under investigation, Shantz said.

A Ford Taurus came to rest on the sidewalk next to westbound West Wilson Boulevard just west of the intersection. A Dodge Caliber was facing South Potomac Street northbound in the intersection with part of the front knocked off and its airbags deployed.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Meritus Medical Center, Shantz said. There were no passengers in either vehicle, she said.

In addition to the Hagerstown Police Department, a utility vehicle and a firetruck from the Hagerstown Fire Department were on the scene.

Police were directing traffic at the intersection until the scene was cleared at 9:11 a.m.

Police responded to the accident at 8:13 a.m. Monday.
