County kicks off campaign for building safety in May

May 07, 2012

To celebrate Building Safety Month, Washington County government is launching an education campaign focusing on the hot topics in building safety, officials said in a news release.

County officials will post daily safety tips on Facebook and answer “ask the expert” questions all month, the release said.

In addition, the county will highlight videos that explain building codes and safe structures.

Children also can participate by completing educational workbooks available at local libraries.

The themes include:

  • Week of May 7, Energy and Green Building — How the county has implemented energy-saving practices using grant money
  • Week of May 14, Disaster Safety and Mitigation — How the county alerts citizens during major emergencies and ensures safety
  • Week of May 21, Fire Safety and Awareness — How first responders keep the county safe and continue to educate the public on fire safety
  • Week of May 28, Backyard Safety — How to be safe in outdoor settings, as the county Division of Plan Review and Permitting highlights backyard pool safety
