Alumni group to meet

The South Hagerstown High School Alumni Association will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. in the school’s media center. 

Items to be discussed are the winners of the 2012 scholarships, the annual benefit golf tournament scheduled for June 14 at Beaver Creek Country Club and a casual alumni gathering at the Cancun Cantina on June 15.  

All South High graduates are invited to attend.

Yard sale, car wash

The South High Rebel Band will hold a food drive, along with a yard sale and car wash, Saturday, May 19, at the high school.

Hagerstown Ford will donate $20 for each test drive in one of its vehicles at the school that day.

Hagerstown Ford is helping to organize the event titled “One 4 UR School.” There will be one test drive per household.


The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The yard sale will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will cost $15 to rent space; participants supply their own tables. 

The car wash will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by donation.

Women’s health week

In celebration of National Women’s Health Week, Curves of Hagerstown will hold an open house Thursday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

There will be free weight and body fat checks, free blood pressure checks by a registered nurse and free 10-minute massages. 

Everyone who attends will receive a free 30-day Curves membership. 
At 6 p.m., there will be a talk on osteoporosis prevention.

Mother’s Day tea

The community is invited to a Mother’s Day tea for moms and dads sponsored by Bester Community Cares.

The event will take place Wednesday, May 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave., on the corner of Summit Avenue and Howard Street.

Light snacks will be provided, along with various teas, gifts, door prizes and a make-and- take craft for children.

A clothes/accessory closet will be available for dads to put together a Mother’s Day gift for moms.

Driver safety program offered

The Washington County Commission on Aging will hold an AARP driver-safety program Thursday, June 14, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Ravenwood Assisted Living, 1158 Luther Drive in Hagerstown.

The instructor is William Baschke Jr.

The class is designed to help drivers improve their skills.

The course costs $12 per person for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers.

Checks should be made payable to AARP.
