PREP SOFTBALL

Tristan Hartle smacked a three-run homer to open the scoring in the first inning for Boonsboro (5-12, 4-10) in an 8-2 MVAL Antietam victory over South Hagerstown on Friday.

Kaitlyn Spangler had two hits and two RBIs, and Ashlyn Hinkle added two hits for the Rebels (0-17, 0-13).

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. — Marley Elbin pitched a four-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts for Southern Fulton in a victory over Northern Bedford.

Elbin helped her cause with two hits, an RBI and two steals for the Indians (7-6). Maddie Mellott hit an RBI single.

SMITHSBURG —  Dylan Durning blasted a three-run homer in the seventh for Smithsburg, but the Leopards came up just short in an MVAL Antietam loss to Catoctin (13-4, 9-3).

Brock Heiston had three hits and two RBIs, and James Shifler had two hits and scored two runs for the Leopards (3-17, 1-13).

Drew Brooks had two goals and an assist for North Hagerstown in a season-ending loss to North Carroll that was continued from Thursday.

Alex Unger and Kyle Hewlett had two goals each, Reggie Daniel and Brandon Brown each had a goal, Peter Perini and Reed Jimenez each had an assist and Daved Paddack made 11 saves for the Hubs.



GIRLS LACROSSE

Manchester Valley 23, Boonsboro 4

MANCHESTER, Md. — Tori Poffenberger scored two goals and Courtney Ridenour and Claudia Jenkins each added a goal for the Warriors in Thursday’s loss to Manchester Valley.

Maeve Windsor made eight saves for Boonsboro.

South’s Burnett signs with Potomac State

South Hagerstown senior Bobbi Burnett, a middle hitter, has signed a letter of intent to play college volleyball at NJCAA program Potomac State starting this fall.

Potomac State won the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association championship last year and finished second to Hagerstown Community College in the Region XX Division II tournament.
