May 04, 2012

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — One person was taken to a hospital, and the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 were closed Friday afternoon as a result of a single-vehicle accident.

The crash occurred shortly after 2 p.m. when a vehicle overturned near mile-marker 23, according to a Franklin County Emergency Communications dispatcher.

An officer with the West End Fire and Rescue Co. said that the single occupant of the vehicle was taken to an area hospital, but his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation traffic cameras at Exit 24 showed southbound traffic backed up, but moving slowly at 3 p.m.

Pennsylvania State Police investigated the accident, but no further details were available Friday evening, a trooper said.
