Remembrance Walk will join two town on Sunday, Sept. 16

The organizers of Shepherdstown (W.Va.) 250 and Sharpsburg Heritage Festival announce a joint event for the towns and their contribution to the Sesquicentennial commemoration of the Battle of Antietam. The Antietam Remembrance Walk: from Sharpsburg to Shepherdstown will be Sunday, Sept. 16. The 3-mile walk is to remember those who fought at the battle of and those who opened their homes to care for the wounded.

The walk will begin at the site of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's tent headquarters on Md. 34, west of Sharpsburg.  After the opening ceremony, participants will cross the Potomac River bridge, and into Shepherdstown. Registration is free.
