WILLIAMSPORT — It rained on the Williamsport softball team’s Senior Day in more ways than one on Wednesday afternoon.

Boonsboro blanked the Wildcats 3-0 in an MVAL Antietam softball game that was ruled official after five innings because of a thunderstorm.

The Warriors (4-12, 3-10) were leading 4-0 over Williamsport (4-12, 3-10) after scoring a run in the top of the sixth when the thunderstorm stopped play. After a 20-minute delay, the umpires ruled the game official through five innings.

Boonsboro senior Amber Myers pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out four.

“We did very good in the field,” Myers said. “We had a very strong defense today. We got big hits and we worked around that. I just wanted to pitch strikes and let my defense work behind me.”

Myers has signed to play college softball next year at Davis & Elkins, an NCAA Division II school in the West Virginia Conference.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the first. Kimmy Seabright led off by reaching on a throwing error. Two outs later, Tristan Hartle doubled down the left-field line to drive in Seabright.

Boonsboro added two more runs in the fourth. With one out, Hartle singled to left for her second hit of the game to set up Natalie Tobery’s two-run home run to straightaway center.

Williamsport senior Ariah Giles gave up two earned runs on four hits without a walk and struck out six. Emily Taylor led the Wildcats’ offense with two hits.

“It was tough for us,” Williamsport coach Jen Finafrock said. “We made our own mistakes. I thought we hit the ball really well. We just hit it right at people.”

The Wildcats had at least one runner in scoring position in every inning but could not get the key hits needed. Williamsport had a chance to score in the first on a wild pitch, but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
