Washington County school board awards bids for maintenance, repair of PE equipment

May 01, 2012

The Washington County Board of Education has awarded bids to two companies for the inspection, maintenance and repair of physical-education equipment.

Pottstown, Pa.-based RJ McCarville Associates’ bids —  a lump sump totaling $14,700 to annually inspect indoor-telescopic bleachers and gym operable walls — was included in the unanimous approval of the consent agenda by the seven-member board during an April 17 school board meeting, according to a videotape of the meeting and presentation documents.

Forest Hill, Md.-based TJ Distributors’ $18,450 lump-sum bid to annually inspect physical education equipment and gym divider curtains also was approved as part of the consent agenda.

Four companies bid on the work. Only one of them, Cavetown Planing Mill, was a local company, according to presentation documents.

While Cavetown submitted lower lump-sum bids for annual inspection services, its minimum service call fees were higher, and the company declined to provide some information, the documents said.
