AUGUSTA, Ga. — Five Augusta pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts as the Greenjackets kept the Hagerstown Suns’ offense in the dark for a 2-0 victory Sunday in the South Atlantic League.
Starter Kyle Crick allowed two hits and two walks in his four innings, striking out eight for Augusta (10-12). Derek Law (1-0) got the win with three innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out three.
Scotty Walker got the first two outs in the eighth inning but walked the bases loaded befoe Kevin Couture entered and got Brett Newsome to ground out to end the threat.
Cody Hall allowed a hit and a walk but kept the Suns (12-10) off the board in the ninth for his fifth save.
Alex Meyer (1-3) struck out eighth in 5 2/3 innings for Hagerstown but took the loss. He allowed both Greenjackets runs on seven hits and two walks.
Ben Thomas led off the fourth with a single and went to third on Jose Cuevas’ double to left. Meyer got a popout and a strikeout to get within an out of escaping the jam, but Eric Sim and Carlos Willoughby hit RBI singles.
Christian Meza worked 2 1/3 hitless innings for the Suns, walking two and striking out two.
