Richard Gilbert "Gil" Winger Sr., 81, of 16922 Shadybrook Terrace in Hagerstown, Md., passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Julia Manor Health Care Center surrounded by his family.

Born Monday, Jan. 26, 1931, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late William Daryl Winger Sr. and the late Mary Emma Gilbert Winger.

He graduated from Towson High School in 1949, and also served in the Naval Reserves for 11 years.

He was employed as a salesman by numerous industries, and later retired from the Maryland Correctional Training Center in 1996.

He was devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be truly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Claire Winger; daughter, Susie Jenkins of Littlestown, Pa.; sons, Richard G. Winger Jr. of Stewartsville, Pa., Steve Winger of Prince Frederick, Md., and John Winger of Hagerstown; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William Daryl Winger Jr.

Services will be Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with Elder James Rivers officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 1, 2012, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
